The Youth Orchestra
Our Youth Orchestra originated from the Four Oaks Cluster Orchestra. This was made up primarily of young people from the 'cluster' schools in the Four Oaks area. This membership has now widened to schools beyond the cluster, and has recently been taken on by the RSCO as its youth ensemble.
The age range is currently 8-15, and incorporates violins, cellos, flutes, clarinets and even a harp! We are currently on the look out for more brass players! Ability ranges from grade 1/2 standard, up to grade 5, and parts can be adapted to suit the player.
The repertoire varies enormously, from arrangements of pieces such as Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Strauss's 'The Blue Danube', to popular pieces such as 'Yellow Submarine' and music from shows.
The RSCO's annual Children's Concert incorporates our Youth Orchestra into the performance, where members have the opportunity to rehearse and then perform with the adult orchestra. They are also encouraged to participate in rehearsals at various times of the year, and members of the main adult orchestra help coach the young people in their rehearsals. These processes have an invaluable insight into what it's like to be part of an orchestra, and how this impacts on each individuals' musicianship.
RSCO Youth Orchestra rehearses weekly at Arthur Terry School, from 4.15pm-5.30pm. Subscriptions are currently £25 per school term.
