The adult orchestra was founded in 1975 by a small number of local musicians and over the years has increased in numbers to approximately 50 members who come from across Birmingham and the surrounding area. We perform five concerts a year under guest or resident conductors. Our concerts feature a wide range of music and include two symphonic concerts and a Family Christmas Concert. We are also keen to promote performing opportunities for young musicians. Our annual Young Soloists concert offers highly-talented local musicians the opportunity to perform a concerto movement and this is often their first public performance with an orchestra. A summer children’s concert, organised with our Royal Sutton Coldfield Youth Orchestra, gives children the chance to play with a full orchestra.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals take place every Thursday from 7.30pm - 9.30pm during term time at Moor Hall Primary School.

Joining us
Orchestral instrumentalists interested in joining us are invited to get in touch. There are vacancies in our viola, violin, cello and double bass sections , and we also have spaces for resident horns, trumpets and trombonists.
Although there are no formal auditions or entry requirements, players are normally expected to have had some orchestral experience. It also helps if you can sight-read well, play to a good orchestral standard, and attend rehearsals regularly. If you are interested, do get in touch by completing the below form and we will see if we can fit you in.
Vacancies for other instruments arise from time to time, and there are opportunities for additional players for some repertoire.
