Royal Sutton Coldfield Orchestra (RSCO)
The adult orchestra was founded in 1975 by a small number of local musicians and over the years has increased in numbers to approximately 50 members who come from across Birmingham and the surrounding area. We perform five concerts a year under guest or resident conductors. Our concerts feature a wide range of music and include two symphonic concerts and a Family Christmas Concert. We are also keen to promote performing opportunities for young musicians. Our annual Young Soloists concert offers highly-talented local musicians the opportunity to perform a concerto movement and this is often their first public performance with an orchestra. A summer children’s concert, organised with our Royal Sutton Coldfield Youth Orchestra, gives children the chance to play with a full orchestra. Rehearsals take place every Thursday during term time.
Royal Sutton Coldfield Youth Ensemble and Youth Orchestra
Since 2016, RSCO has had a Youth Orchestra and is open to instrumentalists of all levels. We provide arrangements of music with parts tailored to the ability of each individual member.
In September 2022, an auditioned Youth Ensemble to stretch the more advanced players was formed. Both are run by a friendly team of experienced musicians and teachers with rehearsals on a Friday evening at Moor Hall Primary School. We play a wide variety of genres of music, whilst working on musicianship and theory and most importantly having fun making music together.
